Diamond & Quantum Weekly | Oct 26–Nov 1, 2026
Two NV-ensemble preprints explore wideband heterodyne reception and dynamical decoupling under inhomogeneous control. MPCVD power orders, a diamond–copper cold-plate sample and device-processing studies add signals, but deployment and customer-validation evidence remains limited.
Diamond & Quantum Weekly | Oct 26–Nov 1, 2026
Reporting window: October 26, 00:00 to November 1, 23:59, 2026 (Beijing time)
1. Key Takeaways
Two new preprints on NV ensembles appeared in quantum sensing this week. One expands the instantaneous bandwidth for RF reception; the other improves protection of spin coherence under control-field inhomogeneity. They address readout and control, respectively, but a deployable system still requires work on power consumption, dynamic range and reliability.
Three journal studies are also worth noting: all-fiber NV current measurement, processing of hydrogen-terminated diamond FETs, and phonon transport in micro- and nanostructures. The first two are closer to device implementation, while the last is a modeling study. None by itself establishes stable product delivery. On the industrial side, more orders for MPCVD power supplies indicate a change in upstream component demand, not necessarily a corresponding increase in diamond-material output or end-market purchases.
2. This Week’s Highlight
Wideband heterodyne reception with NV ensembles: more bandwidth comes with a sensitivity trade-off. First submitted on October 28, the preprint High bandwidth heterodyne sensing with bulk NV diamond reports a sensitivity of 548 pT/√Hz at MHz-scale instantaneous bandwidth. With a magnetic-field gradient and multiple microwave-control channels, the bandwidth expands to 48 MHz, with a reported peak sensitivity of 8.5 nT/√Hz. These figures come from different configurations; they were not achieved simultaneously under the same conditions. The work offers a new experimental approach to NV-based RF reception, but does not yet show that it can directly replace an engineering receiver. arXiv:2610.39022
3. CVD/MPCVD: Equipment, Materials and Thermal Management
An October 28 investor-relations record from Injet Electric says that new orders in its semiconductor and electronic-materials business totaled RMB 794 million in the first three quarters of 2026, up 169.24% year over year. About 40% came from semiconductor-material businesses, including power supplies for diamond and silicon-carbide equipment. The company said diamond-related orders were growing quickly; the relevant product is a microwave power supply for MPCVD systems, supplied to domestic MPCVD equipment makers, nearly 20 of them. RMB 794 million is not a diamond-power-supply order total. The disclosure reflects demand for upstream equipment components. Injet investor-relations record
On the materials-supply side, a public transcription of Wald’s October 30 investor-relations record says it participated in tenders related to Sugon Data and entered the supplier scope for a single-crystal solution. Specific purchase contracts, quantities and delivery dates have not been established. The relevant Q&A in the original attachment has not yet been independently checked, so this remains an unverified commercial lead, not evidence of a secured order. Investor-relations attachment entry
Guoji Precision Engineering’s October 30 quarterly report shows R&D expense of about RMB 232 million for the first three quarters, up 18.22% year over year. This is a consolidated company figure and cannot all be attributed to diamond thermal management. The company had previously disclosed small-batch orders for diamond heat spreaders and optical window plates combined, with related 2025 revenue above RMB 10 million, mainly for defense-industry customers; civilian thermal-management products remained in customer validation. This is historical business status, not a new order this week. Q3 report | Earlier investor-relations record
Paper watch (E09) | UV processing of hydrogen-terminated diamond FETs. A paper published online by Functional Diamond on October 29 examines how two-photon ultraviolet laser etching affects hydrogen-terminated diamond FETs. This process lead is directly relevant to surface treatment and device performance. The full experimental data have not yet been reviewed, so the title alone cannot establish improvements in mobility, threshold stability or production yield. Paper DOI
Paper watch (E03) | Phonon transport in nanostructured diamond. A computational study published in Physical Review B on October 29 uses the phonon Boltzmann equation to examine size, neck width and isotope effects in diamond nanowires, nanobeams and porous structures. It is a reminder that bulk thermal conductivity alone cannot evaluate microscale thermal-management structures; this is not a chip-level cooling measurement. Paper DOI
4. Quantum Sensing and Devices
Paper watch (D05) | All-fiber NV quantum current transformer. Optics Express published an all-fiber NV current-measurement study on October 28, using optical fiber for power delivery and signal transmission across high- and low-voltage sides. The public abstract reports magnetic sensitivity of 4.05 nT/√Hz and current-measurement accuracy better than 1%. This is not evidence of field acceptance or scaled deployment. Its system-level contribution should be compared with work that had already demonstrated high-voltage field testing in 2025. Paper DOI
A preprint first submitted on October 29, Optimized Dynamical Decoupling for Spin Ensembles with Large Inhomogeneities, compares several dynamical-decoupling methods. Using rapid adiabatic-passage pulses and phase optimization, it reports about an order-of-magnitude increase in storage time for the tested NV ensemble compared with a conventional XY8 sequence using rectangular pulses, and demonstrates sensing of a weak AC magnetic field. Adiabatic pulses are not new to NV control; the contribution here is the systematic sequence comparison and experimental quantification. The work remains a preprint. arXiv:2610.39693
5. Conferences
Next week | CarbonSemi 2026. The 6th Forum on the Industrial Development of Carbon-Based Semiconductor Materials and Devices is scheduled for November 5–7 in Ningbo, Zhejiang. On October 28, the organizers updated the attendee list and agenda, which includes diamond-material growth and processing, semiconductor devices, thermal management and heterogeneous integration. Watch for verifiable data on diamond process yield, interface reliability and application validation. The event has not yet taken place; an agenda is not a completed technical result. October 28 agenda update
6. Social-Media Watch
The NV heterodyne-reception study circulated this week is the same paper as arXiv:2610.39022 and is not counted twice. Industry discussion of synthetic-diamond companies entering AI cooling has not produced independently verifiable evidence of a new order. Diamond thermal matrix demonstration for two-tier 3D integrated circuits was published in April 2025, so it is not recounted as a new result based on this week’s reposts. Paper DOI
7. What to Watch Next
On the industrial side, watch whether MPCVD power-supply orders translate into equipment delivery and installation; whether Wald’s supplier-status lead can be substantiated by the original Q&A, purchasing contracts and delivery records; and whether materials customers publish comparable system-resistance, reliability and repeat-purchase evidence. Technically, follow power consumption and reproducibility in the two NV preprints; the difference between the all-fiber current transformer and previous field-tested systems; device statistics for UV-etched FETs; and experimental validation of the nanostructure phonon-transport model. Next week, look for traceable test and customer-validation data from CarbonSemi.
8. Full-Edition Preview
The full Chinese edition examines the business denominator behind MPCVD power-supply orders, the difference between supplier qualification and a signed purchase contract, the proper scope of Guoji Precision Engineering’s historical revenue, and the actual contribution, experimental conditions and engineering-validation gaps of two NV preprints and three journal papers.
Evidence limits and uncertainties
- Injet's RMB 794 million in new orders is for its semiconductor and electronic-materials business across multiple power-supply products; it is not a diamond-specific order figure.
- Wald's reported supplier-qualification and tender information requires verification against the original Q&A attachment and purchasing documents; it is not evidence of an awarded order or delivery.
- Guoji Precision Engineering's R&D expense is consolidated company-wide. Its previously disclosed small-batch diamond heat-spreader business is historical, not a new order this week.
- The NV reception and dynamical-decoupling results are preprints. Journal papers and device studies provide experimental or modeling signals, not proof of field deployment, production yield or recurring customer deliveries.
